SASC Summer Series - Weekend Races

Atlas Sailing is offering a unique package for Lessons  plus races on the same day for Sail Training Students.  We offer individual Races and Race packages.  These can be combined with a group lesson before and after at aimed at Start Helming and Start Skippering levels on board our keelboat training yacht(s).

It is a great way an enjoyable way to spend some  Winter Saturday on Sydney Harbour.  Join our Experienced Skippers / Instructors for the series or  a day out – combining sailing training lessons and instructional racing.

We aim to provide a fully informed and practised experience. Each race we will have a qualified Instructor on board to provide seamanship, sailing tuition and leadership for the crew.  You’ll be given guidance in all aspects of the yacht setup, sailing procedures and racing tactics.  Over the course of the series, we will rotate crew around the various roles and allow for some helming before, during and after the race.

Our aim is to build confidence and competency of the entire crew over the series.

Race Packages

• Single Race - $75/race
• 5 Race Package – 10% discount -  $350/package
• 10 Race Package – 20% discount - $600/package

Lesson + Race Package

This Lesson + Race Package is completed in conjunction with the SASC Summer Series from the Sydney Amateur Sailing Club is a tradition worth experiencing.  It comprises 5 weekend days of lessons and racing on Saturdays through  May – 19 July.

• Sailing Course – 10% discount on RRP + extra lesson - $600/course
• Race Series – same days as lessons – (5 races) - $350/package.
• Total Package Price - $950/package

Time / Duration

• Lesson:  3hrs - 8:30am – 11:30pm
• Break:  30 mins at Marina or Clubhouse.
• Race: 3 hrs – 12:00 – 3:00pm

Description

The Atlas Racing Team series program includes sailing tuition, race training and race craft on Sydney Harbour before the race and afterwards.

• Race Training as a Team - you train and compete on board one of our Surprise 25 or Hick 30 race-tuned yacht. On the training day you learn start your lesson program: boat setup,  race crew roles, hoisting sails, trimming, tacking and gybing.
• Race Competitively as a Team - training together gives the crew the chance to familiarise themselves with the boat and to settle into roles to race competitively.
• Race Planning / Strategies / Tactics - having developed your sailing skills and spinnaker handling skills you go on to learn rules, tactics and strategy on the racecourse.
• Race Series - the races are conducted by SASC in its normal divisional format.  This is a great chance to get into the Sydney racing scene.
• Training / Maintenance Day (optional) – we regularly hold maintenance days during the series for those who want to learn a little more about keeping a racing yacht in good trim.  Tasks may include  small repairs and maintenance items, sail washing, checking lines for wear and tear, rig check, pressure cleaning decks, internal clean and even hull cleaning (for the brave of heart under supervision using an underwater breathing apparatus).  Earn sailing credits towards future sailing courses or events.

What's included

Vessel (Cat 7 Safety), raining, safety equipment, racing, entry fees.

Before you start

• Prior Racing Experience – no mandatory requirement – some experience is helpful.
• Australian Sailing number – you need to register for a sailing number to participate in club races.

Conditions

• Single Race – No refund for “no-show”, race cancellation or abandonment – reschedule to another race in season.
• Race Series Package – 10 races of your choosing for any available race + fully flexible reschedule subject to availability
• Lesson + Race Package – extra lesson and race designed to incorporate any inclement weather or race cancellation.  However, if two or more days are impacted – then an alternate day will be rescheduled.  We also reserve the right to convert any cancelled, abandoned or shortened race into a training session.
• Min Age – 16 yrs.
• Refunds and Transfers – if the race event is cancelled by SASC or Atlas Sailing – we will simply add more lessons to your package.  Full terms and conditions apply to refunds, reschedule and cancellation.

What to Bring

Soft soled shoes (white if possible), hat, sunscreen, shoes,  wind/rain jacket, gloves (recommended), water bottle.  Refreshments at the club afterwards if time permits after post-race training.
